Happy New Year to every single one of our readers. Who now number 250,000 every month and read getting on for 1 million stories. Which considering two years ago we were the only ones reading Cars UK, and even last New Year we could only claim 250,000 stories a month, means we must be doing something right.
Racing fans owe a debt of gratitude to the late Ab Jenkins. The race-car driver and once mayor of Salt Lake City put the Bonneville Salt Flats on the map with the many land-speed records he set there in the 1930s and 40s--some of which remain unbroken. Now, the story of Jenkins and the Salt Flats is being told in a new film, Boys of Bonneville: Racing a Ribbon of Salt.
The new BMW i3 EV (pictured) will be subsidised until 2017. The subsidy of up to £5000 paid to buyers of electric cars has been with us for three years, but it hasn’t had much impact on EV sales and it did look like the government had decided to scrap it all together. But it looks like the coalition has allowed Nick Clegg to have his way with EV subsides in a move that will see £500 million injected in to promoting and supporting electric cars in the UK in the next few years.
